The hack was discovered by the Technobaboy blog, and although it is obviously not an official way of getting the Google apps, it does seem to function. Several reports stated that the method works successfully in both devices.
Since the Huawei ban caused both Huawei and Honor smartphone to launch without the Google Mobile Services (GMS), rather featuring Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), which didn’t have as many popular apps as the GMS, it appeared that fewer people would purchase the smartphones. That would be such a shame, because the tech giant launched some incredible phones, especially for photography fandoms.
The new solution, though, offers the amazing Huawei hardware a fresh approach to use. Google recommends users to avoid side-loading its applications onto any device that hasn’t been run through its own security screening process.
As Huawei and Honor’s new smartphones have not been considered for this process, any side-loaded Google applications might not be reliable, and might also get no updates, which would cause security problems in the long term.
This is not an official method, so if you want to do it, assume the risks that come with it. Still, before proceeding to the installation, make sure to back up your device.
How to Install Google Play Store on a Huawei smartphone
To perform this hack, you need to download an app called ‘Chat Partner,’ which you can find via an APK here.
- Launch the app after it is installed
- Instead of logging in, find the option ‘Detect Device’
- Tap on this button, and a new menu will appear
- The menu will scan your device, and notify you that there are no Google apps
- Select ‘Repair Now’ and ‘Activate’ in the following menu
- The app should then install the Google Play Store for you
Some users have reported they had to restart the smartphone in order to see the Google Play Store among the apps, but some were able to use it immediately. To use it, you need to sign in as you’d usually do with a Google account to have access to the apps.
We should note, however, that the Google Play Store was reported to sometimes crash, but overall, it works just fine. While the service is running, you can get all the apps you want, as well as new updates. It also allows you to sign in, which is important as users have already tried importing Google apps into Huawei phones, but which were useless because they couldn’t sign in.
